Paspalum– What is it?

A native of South America, Paspalum is a perennial summer growing grass with short rhizomes. It has long broad leaves and distinct tall seedheads. The seeds are sticky and easily transported by shoes, machinery and clothing. In the USA it is called Dallisgrass.

When does Paspalum occur?
It is a major weed of turf ranging from the sub-tropical regions through to the most southern states as well.

What damage or effect will Paspalum have?
The clumpy habit of Paspalum makes it difficult to mow and this results in an uneven surface in turf situations.
