Controlling African Black Beetle

To control African Black Beetles, it is important to know their life cycle.

Print page

The African Black Beetle is a common pest that affects turf grass in Australia. Understanding its life cycle is crucial for effective control. During winter, the adults mate in the soil or thatch of the turf. In spring, they emerge, mate, and lay their eggs. It is the larvae that hatch from these eggs that cause damage to the turf in late spring and early summer. To control the beetles, it is recommended to apply chemicals like Merit® during the time of egg laying. This helps reduce the population and prevent damage to the turf.
