Slime Mould Outbreaks
The past weeks have seen outbreaks of Slime Moulds in some areas.
In mid 2014, we saw outbreaks of Slime Moulds in some areas.
Slime moulds are not pathogenic on turfgrasses; rather they feed on organic matter and microorganisms in the soil. In wet weather they move onto turfgrass leaves where they produce large amounts of their reproductive slimy structures.
These can range in colour from white, cream, yellow, orange, blue or grey.
Slime Moulds can affect light reaching turfgrass leaves so they can have a negative impact on photosynthesis.
Generally, they disappear in a few days and treatment isn’t normally required.
