The Eurasian Coot is a familiar bird at Wollongong Golf Club. It is often seen on the water bodies swimming in flocks, but also walking and feeding in turf areas.

The literature says that food is mainly obtained from plants during underwater dives, but observing them at the golf clubs suggests that they are either feeding on the turf (perhaps Poa seedheads) or something living on the grass. Feeding is not causing turf damage, it is the defecation which like with other water birds is the major problem.
