Scientific name Neotermes insularis
Colony lives within damp and decaying timbers such as the central area of trees.  Economic losses can be extreme in timber harvesting operations such as forestry.  Of very little economic importance to structural timbers in buildings, houses etc, however significant problems can be found in wharf constructions.  Tree surgery techniques are critical to address infestations in high value trees in conjunction with insecticide application.
