Envu’s new woody weed herbicide, Method 240 SL Herbicide - The new tool in your toolbox
Reshape the landscape and tackle woody weeds with Method® 240 SL Herbicide.
New Zealand is known for its stunning natural beauty and unique flora and fauna. However, like many countries, it is not immune to the problem of woody weeds. These invasive plants can have a significant impact on the environment and native species. One effective method for controlling woody weeds is through the use of herbicides.
Woody weeds can often grow to a significant size and become invasive, spreading rapidly and taking over natural ecosystems. Some common examples of woody weeds in New Zealand include gorse, blackberry and broom. These can have a negative effect on the environment, leading to habitat destruction, soil erosion and a decline in biodiversity.
There are many effective options available for controlling woody weeds, including herbicides. When compared to other methods, such as manual removal or mechanical clearing, herbicides can often be more cost effective and can cover a larger area in a shorter amount of time. Herbicides can also be used in areas where other methods are not practical. For example, in steep or rocky terrain, manual removal may be impossible or dangerous. In these situations, herbicides provide an effective alternative.
Since 2018, our Vegetation Management team has been testing and trialling Method 240 SL Herbicide. Chris Mills, Market Development Specialist at Envu, said “We have been very encouraged by the results of Method 240 SL. Aminocyclopyrachlor (ACP), the active ingredient in Method 240 SL is effective on a range of woody plants, vines and broadleaf weeds.”
A major factor that contributes to heavy workload for Land Managers is the need for re-treatment. Method 240 SL is a highly systemic herbicide that is absorbed by foliage and roots and accumulates in growing points, significantly decreasing the likelihood of regrowth for the long term.
Method can be applied using various techniques such as aerial foliar spraying, ground-based spot spraying, basal bark and truck injection. It is only to be used in conservation parks, industrial sites and other areas where cropping and grazing do not occur.
Envu ANZ prides itself on our reputation and provides a comprehensive stewardship training package suitable for land managers and applicators that covers the application constraints, considerations and best practice principals and guidance for new and experienced applicators can be found here.
